Field Recordings & Ethnography: An Evening Lecture
Before the studio, there was the suitcase. This lecture follows the pioneering collectors who carried recording machines into villages and marketplaces, capturing music that would otherwise have gone unheard — and asks what those recordings owe to the people who made them.
Thursday 12 November 2026, 19:00 · ERA Auditorium & livestream
Drawing on recordings from the 1900s to the 1930s, the talk weaves together listening, history and a frank look at the ethics of the early ethnographic archive.
The evening closes with a short listening set and an open discussion.
